Button! And a Question About Painting Shoes

I finally have a button! My friend Natalie made one for me.

Isn't it beautiful? As soon as I figure out how, I'll put it on the sidebar with the code, so you can grab it.

In the meantime, here's a question for you. I bought these shoes at Target the other day:

...and I love them so much that now I want to buy another pair to paint them a nice red. My red shoes finally bit the dust over a year ago, and I'm still in mourning. It's remarkably difficult to find a nice darkish-red shoe. These are kind of a canvas, though, so I think spray paint would ruin them. I've seen some spray-on fabric dyes used for clothing, but I'm not sure how those would work for shoes. Any suggestions?

  2. I painted some old Ked type shoes with fabric paint when I was in high school and that worked. I've also spray painted canvas and it worked, but I might have a spare set of shoes in case it doesn't work.

  3. Ummm, I don't know. But didn't I Am Momma paint some shoes recently. It looked like they were fabric of some sort, so I think spray paint would be fine. Do those come in more than one color? Because they are cute, but I don't like the metallic color.

  4. Now that I think about it, I've seen some spraypainting on throw pillows in the last few months, so that just might work after all. I'll go check out I AM Momma as well. Les, I didn't like the metallic gold at first, either (I am NOT a fan - I always go with silverish shades), so I originally bought these to paint red. But then I wore them with my khakis and then my brown pants and decided I just love them too much. Weird, but there you go. :) I checked at Target.com, and they do have them in both purple and black - they're the Mossimo Odell Flower Ballet Flats. In fact, I might need them in black, too! I found the size runs true without socks, so maybe that helps. Thanks for the feedback, girls!!

  5. Les, you were right (about I Am Momma)! I remembered seeing those and FOR MY LIFE could not remember where. So glad you remembered the blog! Yay!

  6. Hi! I always love a cute pair of flats...so versatile! I think you might be able to mod podge them. Have you heard of that? I've never personally tried it, but I've seen some great results online. I just bought a pair of gold flats for my daughter at Wal-Mart yesterday, and I'm going to try it on them. She's a flower girl in a wedding and I can't find the right shoe I'm looking for so...
They were only $7, so if I totally ruin them it's not a big deal! Hope this helps! Here's some links that might help:

  7. Niki, I actually thought about the modge-podge idea because I've seen it around, too (and I have a pair of too-red shoes that are DEFINITELY in the running), but I'm afraid modge podge would lose the great texture of the flowers! I hear they have fabric spray paint, though, so that might be in their future. :) Let me know how modge-podging your daughter's flower-girl shoes goes; I bet they turn out gorgeous!
